Godfre Leung is an art critic and curator based in the territory currently known as Vancouver. His writing has appeared in magazines such as ArtAsiaPacific, Art in America, C Magazine, The Third Rail, and Yishu: Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, and has been commissioned for publications by a number of institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and Walker Art Center. His exhibitions include Pao Houa Her: Emplotment (Or Gallery, 2020), Guesthood and Alienhood: Sun Yung Shin, Jinny Yu, Republic of the Other (Hotam Press Gallery, 2021), Offsite: Christopher K. Ho (Vancouver Art Gallery, 2022), TJ Shin: The Vegetarian (The Bows, 2022), Diinsi Abuur: Kaamil A. Haider, Khadijah Muse, Mohamud Mumin (The Bows, 2023), and Sonja Ahlers: Classification Crisis (Richmond Art Gallery, 2023).
He holds a Ph.D. in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester and has taught courses at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, Ontario College of Art and Design (now OCAD University), and St. Cloud State University, where he was assistant and later associate professor of art history from 2012 to 2018.
In 2021–2022, he was the artistic director of The Bows in Mohkínstsis (Calgary), in Treaty 7 territory.
Currently he is the curator at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ First Nations, where he has organized exhibitions by Maureen Gruben, Kablusiak, Dionne Lee, Diane Severin Nguyen, and Sesemiya.
